Venice began as a residential community in the 1910's and 20's, but has since developed into a Pacific Playland and is both a resort town and residential community. Venice boasts the largest man-made shallow drift harbor made exclusively for pleasure boating. Venice, as its name implies, was originally adorned with the style and unique flair you would find when traveling to Venice Italy, complete with miles of water filled canals, gondolas and of course the architectural styling of the Venetial Renaissance. Venice California originally was to be a copy of Venice, Italy, canals and all, but only a few of the original canals remain today. The canals are now a quaint upscale neighborhood in Venice. Restored and remodeled homes make it a quaint scene along the canal shores.
